the appearance
height & weight ; Roman isn't a big man. He's neither tall nor very thick. He's just a hair over 5'8 though, but he doesn't mind the fact that he's almost short for a guy he's pretty comfortable with his size. He's also more lean than anything else. He is from quidditch decently toned. His tone isn't as good as once used to be but he's active enough after the accident that he keeps some of it.
hair ; Roman's hair is probably one of the most easily noticed thing about him. He really isn't a particularly vain man, but he does give his hair a little more attention than most men. He doesn't really care what other people think of his hair he just has a very particular way that he likes it. If it takes twenty minutes to get it that way Roman is just fine with that. His hair is distinctively two toned. His hair has been a blond with dark highlights hair style for a very long time to the point where the only people who know his real hair color is himself and his parents. He also tends to keep it long so that he can style it in the few different fairly easy to maintain hairstyles that he likes.
eyes ; Roman has honey brown eyes surrounded by almost not there eyelashes. His eyes are distinctly almond shaped. His eyes are sometimes hard to notice because he has rather dark prominent eyebrows that sometime distract from his gentle brown eyes. The most noticeable thing about Roman's eyes is the fact that they always seem to be up to something. They aren't particularly menacing, but they always have this playful glint that can often make one think that he has some trick up his sleeve.
facial features ; Roman doesn't have the sort of face that one looks at and starts panting over. His charms are much more subtle than that. His face tends towards attractive without pushing anywhere close to hot. His face is actually fairly basic. He has a simple oval shaped face with cheek bones that aren't particularly prominent. He does have a fairly strong chin and lips that break easily into a grin. His lips are very pink and look rather soft and are probably the prettiest part of his face. His smile is especially cute thanks to the fact that he has a gap between his upper two front teeth and does nothing to try to hide this fact. His nose is classically roman, but thanks to Quidditch his nose has been broken several times and that is fairly obvious.
distinguishing features ; Roman has no tattoos or piercing. He does have a good share of scars. Some are from his almost infamous accident the most prominent being one on his thigh where the bone punctured the skin. While his wounds would eventually heal for the most part the scar never faded despite the healers best attempts Roman has never really cared. He has a few smaller scars on his back from impacting with the stands, but they are mostly light and only can be seen under close scrutiny. He has a small oddly shaped birthmark behind his right ear. He says it's a heart, but it's not really shaped that way though it's a great excuse to get a girl that close.
style ; Roman has a very basic style. He's never really felt the need for anything all that fancy. He can wear and does own dress robes, but left to his own devices Roman will stick to the very basics. He loves jeans and basic comfy shirts without any frills. He doesn't need extra buttons or collars or anything all that special. Comfort is a definite priority for him. He's also a big fan of over sized comfy sweatshirts. They are probably his favorite item in his wardrobe. As for foot wear when ever he can get away with it he'll wear a pair of rather beat up flip flops. When he can't he owns several pair of very basic boots and sneakers that are also rather well worn. It's obvious that Roman isn't much of a shoe shopper.

the personality
likes ;
QUIDDITCH Being a fairly famous Quidditch player in Russia it's no big shock that Roman is a fan of quidditch. It's always been one of his biggest loves. He's always been particularly fond of it because as his father urged him to act like a man rather than a child he always actively encouraged his interest in Quidditch because it was in his father's view a manly sport one that had been a tradition in the Popov family for years. He's always been fond of all the positions, and he loves the whole game. He prefers playing, but he is also an enthusiastic spectator. He's is more than a little sad that due to his accident he can't really play anymore.
SALTY TREATS Roman having never been a big fan of sugar he however does love his salty foods. He loves peanuts or nachos or pretty much anything with a generous helping of salt. He especially loves pretzels which he keeps a huge stock of. He will rarely be caught without some sort of salty snack. And he's fairly well known for eating them just about any time during the day even if it for breakfast. Replacing an entire meal with salty foods or snacks is definitely not a rare occurrence in Roman's world.
DANCING Roman has two left feet. He can't dance a waltz much less anything else, but that has never kept him from trying. He just loves to dances he loves the freedom and the fun of it. He's likely to break out into dance just about anywhere with just about anyone who's willing to dance with him. Dance is in a way therapy to him it lets him work out any excess energy and emotion. He doesn't care that people might stare at his less than professional dancing and he actually likes when people laugh because then everyone is having a good time even if it if for entirely different reasons.
WET WEATHER Roman loves the rain he always has. He loves the smell of it the feeling on just standing as the cool water washes over you. He has a romantic notion that rain washes away all the stress and troubles of the world and lets the new world have a clean slate. He finds the rain and it's resulting wet weather to be relaxing and calm. There is very little that he loves more than sitting next to an open window while it rains and just listening to the muted world.
TOYS Roman loves toys. From the most simple childish toy to the most elaborate toy in the world. He's just as happy play with a simple yo-yo as an intricately carved marionette. He finds peace making toys. He also loves playing with them. He's always been amazed at how versatile a toy can be. A toy can be a distraction, a heart warming gift, a confidant, a best friend. There are so many things a toy can do for you that sometimes even people can't. Toys can't blame you or be demanding in return they just love back unconditionally. His best friend is a toy and he's not even remotely ashamed of this fact as he will openly assure anyone that said toy has been with him through thick and thin even when every human person backed away.
dislikes ;
SUGAR Roman just wasn't born with a sweet tooth. While most people look to ice-cream or candy when looking for a treat Roman has always preferred salt. He of course was never allowed to eat much sugar, because it always made him hyper and extra annoying to his parents. It takes very little sugar to get him very hyper which doesn't really bother him, but he doesn't really like the feeling he gets after he crashes from the sugar. He's a relatively healthy man who doesn't get sick often, but the feeling he gets after a sugar high is close enough to illness that he does his best to avoid it. His aversion to the feeling is strong enough that most sweets don't even taste good to him.
CHEATING Always having been a fan of games. Especially board games with cool little pieces and obscure little rules and thanks to this Roman has always hated cheaters. He's always hated people who cut corners or don't follow the rules. His feelings of cheating are a little more confusing, but when it comes to games Roman has no tolerance for cheating. This is probably of course because the injury that wound up crippling him and putting him out of quidditch was all because of the other teams cheating so that they could win the match. So he doesn't react very well to cheating. Roman is by no means a fighter, but watching someone cheat is one of the ways to get him riled up the most easily.
WET WEATHER Roman loves the rain he's always enjoyed the peace it brings, but since his accident he's less fond of the rain at least partially. Thanks to the accident the rain now brings a lot of stiffness and pain to the right side of his body. Sometimes it's bad enough that he can barely walk. Which is both painful and frustrating. He still enjoys the quiet and the smell, and the freshness it brings to him, but the pain and frustration does screw with the peace a little bit. During the rain he is of course forcefully reminded of just how much things have changed how quickly. So occasionally the rain can give him a mood, but only every once in a while.
MONEY Anyone that knows Roman knows that he doesn't like money. He thinks money is often the root of most of the troubles the world has. He hates that something as unimportant as money can cause so much misery. He doesn't think it's right that someone without money should go without. This dislike is fairly obvious for him as he has almost no regard for money. If it wasn't for the fact that he has an accountant who jealousy guards his profits Roman would go out of business for giving away his toys and his money. The only reason he opened a business at all was the fact that he has always had a passion for toys and wanted to share that love with others. Roman is known at his shop for trade as well. It's not a rare occurrence in his shop that he will trade toys for services like a plumber fixing the leaky faucet in his break-room.
ENGLISH Roman isn't the most talkative man. He's content just making a few comments when he feels he has something to say. He is by no means a chatterbox, but he still enjoys talking when the urge strikes him. He finds the English language to be very frustrating. Having been raised speaking Russian learning a new language while in his twenties is quite a challenge and try as he might it's a tricksy little language. He feels very upset when he has a hard time communicating with people, because of a silly language barrier. He doesn't let his difficulties discourage him, but the English language is not Roman's favorite thing in the world.
strengths ;
HARD WORKER The fact that Roman is a hard worker is something that surprises a lot of people. They don't imagine a man who more often than not shows the characteristics of a child can be very dedicated, but he has never been afraid of hard work. He believes anything worth doing is worth doing right. He doesn't like to cut corners and he hates to procrastinate even more. If he's learned anything from his father it's his work ethic. Roman's ethics are especially clear in the toys he makes. He offers other toys in his shop, but his are the best sellers because of how much work and dedication goes into each one. He is also not one to shrink away from helping someone else. If a friend is moving he'll jump right in and help lug boxes. If he sees someone struggling with their groceries he'll help carry them.
KIDS Being little more than an over grown ten year old it's not surprising that Roman is great with children. He has absolutely not problem acting like a kid, but more important than that he also has a lot of respect for children. He tends to treat children like little adults. Just because they are young doesn't mean they shouldn't be respected. This is one of the reasons he makes a great babysitter as most kids love spending time with him. He often babysits his sisters children and they can't wait to go to Uncle Roman's. Of course this could because he often turns his store into little more than a giant fort to play in, but even if he didn't run amok in his toy store he's pretty sure they respond well to him.
CARPE DIEM If there is one motto Roman will always live by it's Carpe Diem. He is a man that wholly believes in seizing the moment. He won't let an opportunity pass and he's one who won't hesitating in taking a risk that he thinks will pay off. He's not fearless, but he won't let a silly thing like fear stand in the way of a chance. He full heartedly believes that opportunity only ever works out to those with the heart to go for it no matter what. This can often put him just a little bit in front of the game because while other people hesitate Roman will just go for it. The way he sees it the worse thing that can happen is that it won't work out
weaknesses ;
CRIPPLE Roman doesn't like this word, but the truth is that he's partially crippled. Thanks to an unfortunate crash that ended up with him in the stands of a qudditch match suffering a broken spine and several broken limbs Roman will never be in the shape he was once in. While the healers worked miracles mostly fixing injuries that would have killed any muggle magic can only do so much. Roman walks with a distinct and heavy limp because his knee just doesn't bend the way it's supposed to. His right hand is also largely useless. He can hold things in his hand but the finer motor skills are far beyond him even buttoning something with his right hand is a challenge. He's learned to be left handed but the fact that his right side is his weak side is rather obvious.
IRRESPONSIBLE The man more often than not acts much like an overgrown kid. And just like a kid he'd rather do fun things than boring things. If it's something he can postpone he'll do so at every opportunity. It is also not unknown for him to just completely forget something he was supposed to do. He won't forget the big things like paying rent, but little things like showing up to an Healers appointment or an interview that he can have more trouble with. He also doesn't take some things as seriously as other people think he should. One of his favorite quotes is a great example of this. In his office in the back of the shop on a big poster is the words, 'I love dead lines especially the sound they make as they fly by.'
NAIVE As previously stated Roman is in many ways quite child like. He can happily see the more fantastical side of things. And just like a child Roman has never really learned to be all that suspicious. He whole heartedly wants to believe that people are at their core good people and that if you just give them a chance they'll prove him right. This desire makes him sorta easy to take advantage of, because until you prove to him you can't be trusted he'll trust you for no other reason other than the fact that he thinks all people deserve a chance. He's the sort who would let a convict work at his store just because the person said they had changed. He would believe them until the moment he comes back to his shop to find the register and safe empty and then he'd be well and truly shocked. Of course he isn't the type to learn a lesson like that mostly because he really doesn't want to believe that all people have a little bit of bad in them.
boggart ; Without a doubt his biggest fear is himself being paralyzed.
amortentia ; Rain, Wood shavings, and beef
erised ; He doesn't want to grow up and he never ever ever wants to be as 'mature' as people think he should be.
veritaserum ; That while he was injured and paralyzed he had began to consider ways of committing suicide to avoid being paralyzed forever. He is deeply ashamed by this fact as suicide is cowardice so he's never mentioned it to anyone.
dementor ; A lot of people assume that his worse memory would probably be the accident that changed his life forever. And he supposes in a way it is, but the actual memory happened after the as he first awoke in Mungo's. He woke up unable to move even a finger and was terrified for hours that he would be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Eventually he would gain most of his movement back, but those first few hours were the worst in his entire life. The fear of being paralyzed permanently put the pain of the accident to shame.
patronus ; Roman's best memory is from when he was six years old and his babushka sat him down in front of the fireplace and read Peter Pan to him. It was a magical moment that Roman will probably never forget. Roman is surprisingly good with the Patronus charm and it takes on the form of a lamb.
personality ; From a very young age Peter Pan has been Roman's idol. A boy who refused to grow up so well that he never grew up. The idea fascinated Roman and it would be this ideal that Roman would embrace for the rest of his life. While he physically grows older every year the rest of him doesn't follow. Childhood is for most the best years of your life and Roman refuses to give that up. He enjoys acting his shoe size rather than his age. Behaving like a thirteen year old suits him just fine. He doesn't see why maturity is such a big deal as long as he is happy. He has his business and he's not homeless so he figures he is just about as responsible as he needs to be. This might leave a bit to be desired from other people, but Roman is content with himself.
He is a very playful young man who'd much rather have a bit of good clean fun than doing anything else. So what if he has an invoice to write up a nice game of checkers is much more important. A lot of people think he has no priorities, but this isn't true his priorities are just different than everyone Else's. He doesn't think life needs to be about have to's rather than wants. He whole heartedly believes that life wasn't meant to be a chore, but rather an enjoyable adventure. And yes he is irresponsible, but he makes that up in spades. He is also a man who puts all his effort into what he is doing. If that means trying really hard to have a good time then so be it.
This also translates into the more boring parts of his life he might prioritize a bit differently than most people but when he does finally sit down and gets to down to boring work he does put most of his attention into it. He's not one to slack once he sets his mind to it no matter what the task is. He's just as focused when he plays a game of tag as when he works on the books for his shop. This is one of the biggest reasons he's doing as well as even though he was seriously injured in an accident he puts all his efforts into over coming that. He taught himself to be left handed and continued to work on the right side of his body determined to make it cooperate more. He could have given up a lot of things after the accident, but instead of giving up he just got more determined to do something else he loved as much as quidditch.
He is also a light hearted person who tries to put a silver lining over even the weightiest of subjects. His accident is a good example of this as he often says if he hadn't been hurt he would have never given up Quidditch and opened Toytopia. He knows it would be easy to wallow in the fact that things don't always turn out how you'd hope they would, but he thinks ones time is much better spent focusing on the good things that come from the bad. Roman's philosophy is shit might stink, but it grows really pretty flowers.
Roman is also a hardcore romantic. He's pretty sure the only thing better than toys and games is love. He dreams of finding that perfect woman and spending forever with her. He's also rather known for being more than willing to express his emotions and going to great lengths to make his lady friend feel special. He has a great time arranging and thinking up various romantic situations. He might not be the most creative when it comes to being romantic, but the fact that he tries very hard if very obvious. Whether it be a handful of flowers picked especially for his woman or a romantic dinner carefully planned out Roman puts his all into it.
Roman is also smarter than most people think. He admittedly doesn't give the best impression of intelligence between his penchant for acting like a child, his accent, that fact that he is struggling with English, and his less than expressive face. But Roman while not a genius is definitely smarter than he looks. He had to be to be able to remember all the quidditch plays and to learn how to play three dimensional chess. So Roman can often be underestimated in this area. But he doesn't get too upset over this fact if people want to think him stupid well that's their business.
He is also a remarkably stubborn man who once he's decided on something it takes an act of god to make him change his mind. This often works in his favor as he usually only gets stubborn about things one should be stubborn about, but it can occasionally get him in trouble. He is remarkably stubborn about giving people a chance. No matter how often he is warned that people will take advantage of him he absolutely refuses to believe that no matter how many times his family and friends are proven right.
the school life
school attended ; Durmstrang Institute
former house ; Grimoff
favourite subject ; Roman actually enjoyed school even if he wasn't the best pupil. His favorite subject was Gypsy Magiks. Again he wasn't the best pupil, but he found the subject interesting and was definitely his favorite class since Quidditch doesn't count as a class.
worst subject ; Without even a little doubt Exploration of the Dark Arts was Roman's least favorite class as it was a little too dark and gloomy for his tastes.

history ; Roman would come into the world on an unsurprisingly chill September morning. He would be born to two very proud and very pleased parents. Roman would be the first of two children. Roman's parents would of course be pleased for two very different reasons. Roman's mother was of course just happy to have a healthy baby. Roman's father however was just glad the child proved to be a boy as he had wanted a boy the most so that he could shape the child to be a proper man. The fact that Roman would be a disappointment to the man came apparent at a very young age. Roman unlike his father was never a serious boy and despite his father's efforts would never become such.
Fights between the pair would not be a rare occurrence and would start shortly after the boy's sixth birthday when Romanov began to insist that Roman start to act like a man. Roman was quite happy being himself and had no intention of being like his father. When Roman and his father fought Roman inevitably ran down the street to his Grandmother's house. He loved his grandmother perhaps even more than either of his parents. His grandmother was in her way a stern woman, she always had a soft part for him. She would always be the most supportive woman in his life. Even as he grew older and his mother began to take his father side no matter what the argument his Babushka would always be on his side. Eventually Roman would wind up mostly living with his grandmother as if he stayed with his parents too long he and his father would always butt heads.
He would enter Durmstrang nearly a year after his 11th birthday. Roman was not looking forward to this mostly because he wasn't exactly studious. Unsurprisingly Roman found the strict foreboding nature of Durmstrang to be most uncomfortable. He was definitely not the best pupil and often got in trouble for not paying attention in class or performing very well. Roman didn't truly settle into Durmstrang until his third year when he tried out for the quidditch team. Roman perhaps wasn't the best behaved or educated pupil, but he was in his element on the quidditch pitch. It took no time at all before he was the star of his house team. After joining his house team school did become easier. If only because he had something to look forward to every year.
Quidditch would also prove to be the only area he and his father could take about civilly. Sports were in Romanov's eyes the only mature manly thing his son did. The fact that his enjoyment of quidditch budded into a career was a lucky thing as his father was definitely not approving of Roman's original idea of working at a toy store. Fortunately upon graduation he was quickly signed to a professional team. Of course Professional Quidditch was a lot of work, but Roman took to it well enjoying even the most grueling of practices. Eventually Roman built up a name for himself. This would unfortunately come to an abrupt halt.
It would be during a fairly average game that Roman's career and almost his life would be brought to a brutal end. It had been a rainy game which didn't bother Roman at all as it made the game more exciting. However it wasn't a good clean game and unknown to him his broom had been tampered with. The game was halfway over when he realized there was something very wrong with his broom. He tried to land, but he couldn't manage it and he also tried to signal for help, but no one seemed to notice. Of course the whole thing was over in a blink, but it seemed to be much longer to Roman. It ended with him being thrown from his broom and into the stands below. The impact would cause severe injuries including some brain damage, a broken back, a broken femur, and some organ damage as well.
Roman of course passed out, but thanks to the medics and the staff at the nearest hospital the accident didn't kill Roman. He woke up completely paralyzed unable to do much more than blink. He was terrified. Even when everything was explained to him nothing calmed him. It was a very dark time in Roman's life and a usually cheerful man began to plot out how a man incapable of movement would manage to kill himself. However that didn't become necessary as he was transferred to St. Mungo's for more radical treatment options. This was decided by his grandmother who knew him well enough that dying was better than paralyzed for the rest of his life. He also has his babushka to thank for his sanity as she sat with him most of the time and read Peter Pan to him like she did when he was a young boy and angry with his father.
Roman was in the hospital for a very long time before slowly St. Mungo's began to show progress. It was very frustrating as the progress was very slow. It started with being able to wiggle his toes and then his fingers and slowly he started to regain most of his ability to move. Roman would never be one hundred percent healed. His right side remains largely paralyzed. He can move his arm and his, but the finer movement still elude him. This started a very long process of learning to cope. But he managed again with his grandmother by his side slapping him across the back of the head whenever he started to get angry or frustrated. Of course the injuries meant Roman's career was over, but this he quickly coped with deciding to follow an old dream and work at a toy store.
Of course thanks to the money he made playing Quidditch he had the opportunity to build and own his own toy store. Still in physical therapy Roman started planning and constructing Toytopia in his head. He fully planned on having it be the best toy store in the entire world. As his plans came to fruition he's hopefully that he's well on his way to doing just that. Of course it's been a bit of a challenge as he's still physically not a hundred percent and for business reasons he's opened up shop in Hogsmeade rather than closer to home. He likes Hogsmeade, but he does miss his mother and his grandmother who he is still trying to convince to come live with him. He's not sure what's going to happen, but he's hopeful for the future.
