the basics
character name ; Emygdius Caesar Lonving
nickname(s) ; Dius is the name he most often goes by because he mostly hates his real name. He knows his parents love him, but he doesn't know what they were thinking when they gave him such a weird name.
age ; 15
date of birth ; December 22, 1993
blood status; half-blood
sexual orientation ; Very much so heterosexual. He's not a bigot, but he's very awkward around homosexual people.
wand ; 13 inch willow wand with unicorn hair core.
affiliation ; Dius is more of the neutral sort. He thinks the order are good people, but is unlikely to get involved in anything that serious unless forced to.
the appearance
height & weight ; For his age Dius is a pretty tall boy. Standing at 6'3 he definitely manages to keep up with even the tallest boys in Hogwarts. The fact that he keeps growing every year is proof that he's going to be a very tall young man. While he may be pretty tall he tends to be fairly skinny. He does have a little muscle, but he is more lean than muscular and weighs about 170 lbs.
hair ; Dius's hair is fairly distinctive mostly because of its very light color. His hair waivers between a yellow blond to a white blond depending just how much sun he's gotten. His style tends to be a little messy as he rarely spends very much time on it. He often looks in need of a haircut mostly because he usually does need a haircut. He tends to keep it a little on the long side and does occasionally do different styles when he's in the mood.
eyes ; The first thing you notice about the boy's eyes is the fact that they always seem to look gentle. Even when he's angry there's a compassionate soft look to his eyes. They are a light blue color with just a few green flecks. His eyes are surrounded by a generous helping of eyelashes.
facial features ; Dius has a pretty face. He has very soft skin that rarely experiences any skin problems. He has strong well defined cheek bones as well as a strong jaw. You don't often see his forehead or eyebrows, because his hair usually covers these features. His lips are thin but seem gentle due to the fact that they are almost always smiling. But without a doubt the most attractive feature on his face are his dimples.
distinguishing features ; The first distinctive thing you noticed about Dius is the fact that he's a tattooed sixteen year old. However if you are very detail orientated you will notice that the tattoos are rarely exactly the same as they were the day before. This is because he draws the tattoos on using a makeup pencil. They are rarely the same because he's not perfect and sometimes occasionally you'll catch him with no tattoos at all. Scar wise he has a small scar across the back of his left knee he has no idea where it came from he just knows it's there.
style ; Dius' style tends to be a little fluid. The most common look is fairly plain jeans and a shirt. But occasionally he gets in the mood to be a little more creative. When he's in one of those moods he'll wear just about anything. Sometimes he'll go geek chic, sometimes he'll go more rocky, but whenever he experiments with his look you can be guaranteed it'll be interesting. The one constant about his outfit is that he is almost always wearing a pair of beat up sneakers. He usually only owns like one pair of sneakers and will wear them to death. This isn't because of money, but because of the fact that he likes those particular shoes and no others. He practically goes into mourning whenever he has to get a new pair.

the personality
likes ;
PEOPLE Dius is a regular old social butterfly. He loves talking with people. He loves just being with people. Any activity where a lot of people gather and have fun you can count on Dius to be there. He's not real particular about his friends as long as they can have fun and aren't too mean. But even outside of his friends he still likes people he finds them fascinating. This is a habit he's gotten from his parents who like to study people more than interact with them. The more unusual the person the more Dius enjoys being around them just so he can see what they will do next.
EMBER GATES Anyone who knows Dius at all knows that he is just absolutely obsessed with Ember Gates the Captain of the Wollongong Warriors. He's been a huge fan from the moment she joined the Warriors. Not only is she the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, he finds her to be fascinating even more so than most people. She is just so unique he could study her for ages and never get bored. He's awed by her notorious moods. He is also a big fan of anything even loosely connected to the woman. He's probably one of the Warriors biggest fans, he is known to wear every bit of Gates Gear he can get even if it's in girly colors. He also has a huge poster of Ember above both his home and Hogwarts bed and he has two life sized cutouts at home.
QUIDDITCH Dius while a big fan of Ember Gates is also a fairly big Quidditch fan. Maybe not to the degree that he likes his favorite player, but he's quite fond of the game. He finds it endlessly exciting and just loves sitting in the stands and watching a game. He goes to every game he can even if his team isn't playing just because he likes the game. He also loves to play it and tries every year to get on the team, but due to the fact that he's always topped by someone else this hasn't happened yet. This fact however doesn't dim his enthusiasm for the sport. He can't play, but he can be a hell of a cheerleader.
ART The fact that Dius is a bit of an artist isn't something most people know. This is because he tends to only work when he's alone. The only sign of his art you can see regularly is the imitation tattoos he draws on himself, though most people don't realize that these are drawings and not real tattoos or decoration charms. But while it's not something he advertises he finds art to be soothing. Whenever he's lonely or confused he can just sit down and sketch his worries away. His art is the easiest way he has of expressing all the emotions he wouldn't normally share with other people. He really is pretty good, but he rarely thinks about sharing his art, because it's very personal to him. As his art shows not only the best of him, but also the worst.
CANDY And no not that kind of candy. Ok so yes he is a fan of the sweets, but for this he is talking about his sister. One Candria Lonving. His sister in pretty much his polar opposite where he loves fun and people she loves studying and seclusion. They argue as often as they breathe, but there is no person in the whole world he loves more than his sister. She can be a royal pain in the butt, but she's loyal and always there when he needs her most. The fact that she's adopted to him actually makes her special since they did actually pick her rather than just got stuck with her by the more usual method of child birth. Also he knows for as annoying as she can be her heart is always in the right place.
dislikes ;
MATH Whoever invented math was an evil mastermind Dius knows this with all his being. Whoever could think of such a monstrous thing has to be evil because no good person would inflict such a thing on people. Not only is math hugely boring it's useless. He'd for once like a solid answer when he asks exactly when knowing the quadratic whatever it is will become useful in life. If people were meant to do math they would have never invented the calculator. Dius hates math with a passion it's boring and confusing. He always does he best to avoid math as much as he can.
READING Reading isn't as hard as math, but it's certainly no picnic. The fact that reading tends to go along with homework only makes it worse. It's not that he hates stories, but the fact that he can think of so many better things to do. Why sit in a musty old library when he can be outside playing Quidditch or sketching in his secret book of sketches. His parents have always pushed him to read, but his sister has always been the one who's more book oriented. He openly claims the only book he willingly reads is the Karma Sutra, but of course that's only because it has looooots of pictures.
REPTILES Dius is fairly good with animals. He's not one to adopt everyone that comes along, but he likes them well enough. However there is one class of animal that he will never like. Reptiles are just creepy. What sort of creature runs on cold blood? And then of course there are their eyes. He of course hates snakes, but Lizards and even turtles really creep him out. The people who have pet lizards mystify him. Who would willingly keep such a gross animal around? He will never willing go near any sort of reptile no matter how small. He dislikes itty bitty lizards just as much as he would an alligator.
BEING ALONE Dius is pretty much the ultimate social butterfly. He loves being around people even if they are strangers. There is nothing worse to him than being alone. He's not a boy who copes with solitude well. There's something about being alone that's more than a bit unsettling and not to mention scary. He never feels like himself unless he's around other people. He's ok being with just one other person but alone sucks. Even in his dorm if he's the only one in there he tends to move somewhere else where there are people. He doesn't have to be interacting with them, but people need to be around for him to be comfortable.
CANDRIA LONVING Dius loves his sister. She's a good girl who has her heart in the right place, but dear Merlin if she's not one of the most irritating people on the entire planet. She's a nagger of the most accomplished level. Dius did you do your homework, Dius brush your hair, Dius take a shower, Dius pay attention, Dius those grades will never get you anywhere, Dius don't lick people it's gross; all she ever seems to have to say are orders and criticisms. His sister is also heavily focused on the things that don't matter. Grades, books, knowledge he'll never use later on in life. Her priorities are wildly out of whack. She doesn't like Quidditch and she wouldn't know fun if it bit her on the arse. He loves her but sometimes it's a challenge to get along with her. Well ok most of the time.
strengths ;
HARD WORKING When most people try to describe Dius using just one word slacker is definitely a word that comes up a lot. And at first looks Dius does appear to fit that description to a T. He sleeps in class more than he listens, if it weren't for his sister's note he'd probably would have failed years ago. But Dius is by no means a slacker. In fact most people would be surprised just how hard a worker he can be. His priorities are simply different than most people's he does his hard work where he thinks it matters. Like Quidditch he's managed to not make the house team four years in a row, but that hasn't stopped him he still works endlessly on his Quidditch skills in hopes of being good enough for the next year. Even if his fifth year doesn't mark the start of his Quidditch career he'll keep working at it. He does the same with his art work. And without a doubt the area he works the hardest is with his sister. He works tirelessly and endlessly to make the girl have fun despite her best efforts. So while most people would laugh if they heard him described as hard working the boy really is quite diligent where it matters most to him.
FRIENDLY It's not impossible to dislike Dius, but one certainly has to be an unfriendly booger to not be a friend of one Emgydius Lonving. Dius pretty much likes anyone who doesn't actively hate him. He doesn't care much about things like skin color, blood lines, or in fact much of anything else. People are people and he does like people. He's a very extroverted boy who will make friends where ever he can. He proudly sports a collection of friends that's just about as varied as he can be. He has friends at school and all over the place. He is probably one of the friendliest social people you'll ever meet. Making Dius hate you is a real feat. One that isn't accomplished by many people.
TOUGHER THAN HE LOOKS Dius is in his way a rather soft looking boy. He's not chubby or anything, but he's friendly enough that most people under estimate him. They see a friendly over enthusiastic boy, but one who they wouldn't label as all the durable. But while a lot of people see him as soft Dius is much tougher than one would expect. He is sort of like a super bounce ball no matter how hard you throw him he doesn't break and he'll eventually bounce back. Dius is also more of a lover than a fighter, but he's not afraid to fight back when he has to.
weaknesses ;
DISTRACTABLE Quoting his sister Dius' has the attention span of a gold fish. Which while isn't entirely true it's close enough. Dius isn't known for his inexhaustible attention to detail. The only time he's ever not easily distractible is when it's one of the things he finds very important. Otherwise he is indeed easily pulled off task. This particular weakness drives his Professors and his sister both mad, because he never pays attention in class. Even when doing something fun he can easily be diverted by something that looks like more fun. Quidditch, his sister, and his art are about the only things he's not easily distracted from.
READ ME LIKE A BOOK Dius is pretty much the worst liar in the entire world. It's not that the boy is particularly against lying or even uncreative, but it's the fact that he wears his heart on his sleeve. His face gives him away every time. He is super easy to read even to people that aren't all that familiar with him. When he's sad you can see it in his eyes and on his face. When he's mad, happy, smitten, secretive, lying, whatever he is feeling you can read him like a book. It's because of this that he's not the best person to share a secret with. He won't willingly share your secret, but he's so easy to read most people will know when he's hiding something and will most likely be able to figure out what he's trying to hide. The good thing for Dius is the fact is that he tends to be honest enough that it doesn't matter than he's easily read. Of course he can't play poker worth a crap.
SUCKER FOR TEARS Dius is a pretty empathic person. He's always willing to listen to a friend, but there's no better way to extort help from him like crying. Especially a girl crying. If Dius was to stumble over someone crying no matter what he is doing he will drop everything to help said person. Every time he sees someone cry he feels the urge to cry with them as it makes him so sad. This also sadly makes his fairly easy to manipulate as all it takes is a few crocodile tears and Dius is putty in your hands.
boggart ; Losing his sister. He sometimes has nightmares of his sister deciding she hates him enough that she leaves their family to go find her real family. Not that he'll ever really believe that the Lonving family isn't the only family that matters
amortentia ; Dius' Amortentia would smell of early morning dew, broomstick polish, and freshly made oatmeal raisin cookies.
erised ; Dius desperately wants to be a professional Quidditch player.
veritaserum ; The fact that he can actually speak Latin thanks to his parents and their love for the late Roman Empire is something he guards fairly well as he doesn't want people to see him like his sister. But if they ever need to pass a message secretly they often resort to Latin.
dementor ; Dius' worst memory would be the first time he made his sister cry. He had only been playing with her and he really can't remember exactly what it was that he said that set her off, but seeing her tears and knowing they were his fault well it was one of the worst feelings he's ever experienced.
patronus ; Dius' very favorite memory is a simple one from when he and his sister were about six. It was shortly after Christmas and his birthday and he used the new broom he had gotten to try to teach his sister how to fly. It was a failed effort, but while the day ended with a crash landing in the middle of the yard covered in mud it was great fun. He's not quite gotten a handle on the charm, but when he does it'll take the form of a prarie dog.
personality ;
The first thing you notice about Dius is that he's probably one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. He absolutely adores meeting new people and will befriend any and all who will let them. This often means he can and will get along with people most don't. As long as someone isn't aggressively mean to him Dius is willing to be their friend. After all everyone no matter how different or grumpy needs a friend. You will also notice he is incredibly patient especially when it comes to friends. He understands that all people are different and always makes allowances for those differences. This is one of the reasons he's so easy to get along with well that and that fact that more often than not you need to beat him away with a stick before he'll realize he really can't be someone’s friend.
The next thing you'll notice about Dius is that the boy pretty much lives for a good time and can find enjoyment in almost anything. He is a light hearted boy who loves anything fun. He loves games, or just relaxing with friends. He's easily pleased when it comes to the fun department as he's pretty flexible and tends to find fun where ever he is. This fun doesn't always last very long because he tends to be fairly distractible and often changes his mind half way through a game. He almost never finishes a game unless it's Quidditch. He mostly enjoys outdoor activities like fishing and camping and soccer and stuff like that, but he can find fun inside as well.
After his friendly playful side the next thing that is the most obvious is that Dius is a gentle boy. He's not one prone to violence well unless it's Quidditch and that's just part of the game. He's unlikely to ever hurt someone unless it was absolutely necessary and one of his friends or his sister was in danger. He is proudly as he has claimed many a times a lover not a fighter. This doesn't mean he won't fight when he has to, but that he'll try every other option before turning to violence. He is especially big on talking things out.
He is also a fiercely loyal boy who would never leave his friends hanging. He is almost notoriously irresponsible as he is always forgetting homework and appointments, but if his friends really really need him you can count on Dius. There are a lot of things Dius isn't good at, but he'll always try his best for his friends and other than keeping secrets they can trust him. He'll even try to keep secrets or even lie if necessary, but isn't likely to do a good job though this will have nothing to do with a lack of effort.
The boy is also a pretty optimistic boy. He simply believes that things will work out in a positive manner, because that's how things are. Dius isn't just a glass half full person he's an oooh let’s get a whole new brimming to the top sort of person. He'll see the best in even the worst situation. The only time his optimism fails him is occasionally with his sister who is a real pain in the ass sometimes. Family is of course very important to him and his sister most of all, but if anyone makes his really worry it's his sister. He adores his sister, but she is without a doubt the most difficult person he deals with.
the school life
year ; Fifth year
pet ; A toad named Mickey
favorite subject ; Dius' Favorite class was without a doubt flying. It's pretty much the only class he looked forward to. Of course now that his first year is over he doesn't get to take it anymore, but it's definitely his favorite. If he had to pick a subject currently he sort of likes Herbology. It isn't as easy as some of his classes, but he likes playing in the dirt and he generally enjoys nature things so more often than not he likes the class even if he's not got the best grades.
worst subject ; All of them? What do you mean that's not an acceptable answer? Well if one must ask for a least least favorite it would have to be Transfiguration. It's ridiculously tricky and way too hard to be realistic. Besides why exactly does he need to know how to turn a pet into a goblet?
best spell ; Without a doubt his best spell is Riddiklous. He's very good at thinking inappropriate but hilarious images at the most inopportune of times.
worst spell ; Anything Candria is good at? But the one he fails at the most often is wingardium leviosa. The whole charm takes way too much concentration for him to pull off.

the family life
mother ; Monica Lonving, 36, half-blood
father ; Julius Lonving, 38, half-blood
siblings ; Candria Lonving, 15, half-blood And he considers her his full sibling no matter what the dorkus might insist.
other significant magical relatives ; N/A unless you consider the fact that he insists Ember Gates is his soul mate a significant relationship.
residence ; The family resides during the summers in a timeshare cottage in Port Chester, within Hampshire county. One reason is that the Lonvings enjoy being close to the former Roman fort of Portchester castle. While the children are away at Hogwarts, they are able to travel abroad and commit that time to their research.
history ; As would happen often in his life Dius would be a surprise. He'd be born just a few days before Christmas, but that wouldn't be the surprise, but the fact that he was born at all. Just ten months before his birth Monica and Julius Lonving who both desperately wanted children would acknowledge that they just weren't able to conceive and started to process of adopting a beautiful baby girl whom the named Candria. They would be well into the process when Monica would discover by some miracle that she was pregnant. Instead of canceling the adoption process they decided to keep both children. Of course there was always the worry that the child she was carrying wouldn't make it to birth as they had such difficult conceiving.
However despite their worries Dius joined their small family on a quiet December evening. He would be born perfectly healthy and would almost immediately prove to be a very happy pleasant baby. His parents would return to their field research after a year and would take Dius and his sister with them. Dius would quickly prove to be a social little toddler. As soon as he could walk and talk he was out meeting everyone he could. It wasn't long before cheerful little Dius was the mascot of the entire camp. Growing up moving from historical site to historical site would be a bit different but Dius would cope quite well as long as there were people to get to know he was just fine. Well that and his sister of course.
Candria and Dius wouldn't be more than six or seven when they learned that Candria was actually adopted. Of course Dius didn't really care at all. Candy was his sister and that was that he didn't care if it was by blood or paper work. So while the news might have affected his highly strung sister more to him it was just an interesting bit of a note. It would also be around this time that his parents would arrange for a tutor for the pair of them rather they were at home or out in the field. It would quickly become obvious that while Dius might be the social butterfly Candy was the scholar. At first this upset him since both his parents were so smart and they stressed academics so much. However as he struggled with Latin and history lessons Dius would quickly come to the terms with the fact that Candy was the brains of the family.
It of course didn't help that his parents really didn't care that he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. They loved him even if he did have a hard time conjugating his Latin and remember what emperor ruled when. Dius quickly accepted the fact that his sister was the scholar and he was meant for something else. He was eight when he discovered his purpose. Well his second purpose since his first was too obviously make his sister relax just a little. He had been aware of Quidditch at least enough to know what it was, but he had never seen it. For his eighth birthday his parents would take the entire family to a Quidditch game and from there on it was love at first sight. Dius knew exactly what he was meant to be.
Learning to play Quidditch was of course an entirely different issue given that for the most part Dius was surrounded by academics who really weren't all that interested in sports. So his new dream got put on the back burner for a while. Quidditch really wouldn't come into prominence again until he entered Hogwarts. The fact that he and sister both received Hogwarts letters wasn't all that surprising. He knew his sister was excited because all of the learning stuff, but Dius was actually looking forward to it for several reasons. One he'd finally be around kids his own age on a regular basis and not on a short term basis. He'd be able to make friends he'd get to be with more often and wouldn't have to keep up his friendships with letters.
So Dius entered Hogwarts eagerly. He was a little disappointed at the fact that he couldn't have his own broom or the fact that he quickly discovered he wasn't yet skilled enough for the Quidditch team, but the Hogwarts experience more than made up for those little problems. His studies would never be stellar as he had better things to pay attention to like the hundreds of people he needed to get to know. In no time at all Dius was neck deep in friends and having a grand old time even if he wasn't pulling the grades his sister thought he should be. One of the most regrettable things about Hogwarts was of course the fact that he had his sister were pulled apart a little as they most definitely hung out in different circles. But Dius did his best. Fortunately he always got some time with her as she felt it was her duty to nag him into doing his homework.
Most of his Hogwarts years have been quiet. Other than his continuous efforts to make it onto his house team Dius has been having a grand time at Hogwarts. Even the more difficult years like his third and fourth years when so many bad things happened hasn't dimmed Dius' enthusiasm for Hogwarts and all the fun he is having. Especially since he's hoping his fifth try will be his lucky try and he might just might finally manage to make the Quidditch team.
