BEST CLASS: Transfiguration thanks to the elves she understands transfiguration better than any person her age has a right to.
FAVORITE CLASS: Fire Magic. Fire is pure and brutally cleansing and nothing can survive fire without being changed and Melanie is very fond of the idea of change through fire.
WORST CLASS: Shape Changing really it’s one of her easiest classes, but as she refuses to put much effort into she fails to do well.
MOST DISLIKED CLASS: Shape Changing. The class is completely useless since she’s been a animagus since she was three. However she has to take it because the ministry forces her to. This is probably one of the biggest reasons she hates the class.
FAVORITE PLACE: In the air, because when she’s up away from everything else she feels untouchable. The elves can’t get her and the ministry damn well can’t dog her.
FREE TIME SPENT: Doing what ever the hell she wants. She enjoys dancing quite a bit, hanging with her many friends, flirting, and a lot of other stuff.
FAVORITE WIZ.NET PROGRAM: Without a doubt it’s the music. She can dance without music, but it’s not nearly as enjoyable.

WAND: An eleven inch cherry wood wand with the shavings from her own unicorn horn core. This was specially commisioned for her by her parents request. The wand maker wasn't certain creating a wand with a particular person in mind would work, but the idea of using a part of a person's own essence into their core was an irrestible lure. The experiment worked in it's own way leaving Melanie with a wand that works well with her when it wants to, but is often as tempermental as she is.
PERSONALITY: If one were to use one word to describe Melanie it would have to be fighter. Of course many people would assume that Melanie is a violent girl, but really she’s not for the most part she is a go with it sort of girl who feels no need or desire to be all that confrontational. She’s not a push over, but she won’t fight unless you leave her no option. However Melanie is still a fighter, but more in an emotional sense than anything else. You can push her down, mow her over, rip her to pieces and she’ll get right back up and come back swinging. She is a very resilient girl. Melanie is pretty sure that anyone who lived the life she is living would probably not be as emotionally stable. She’s been made a pet, been an object of susupicion, and forced into many things she’d rather not, but Melanie does her best not to let this change her.
Of course being taken by the Fae isn’t something that you can be completely blasey about. Especially given how they changed her. She was only three at the time so for the most part she was barely aware of the fear she should have been feeling or the trepidition when the fairies gave her their ‘gift’. She has however been coping with the results since the incident and probably will for the rest of her life. Melanie likes to think she has rolled with the punches fairly well. Of course it’s a bit difficult being considered a freak. It’s not surpsiing after all children are hardly the kindest creatures and when one is capable of transforming into a unicorn before most of them could walk well it’s not surprising that they wouldn’t welcome her with open arms. She is a bit of a social outcast people are often nervous around her as they don’t know what to expect from her, but she doesn’t let this bother her. In fact she just tries a little bit harder to keep and make friends. Melanie really is a very social girl that will happily get along with anyone that will give her a chance. But at the same time she doesn’t let it bother her that she is not nor will she ever be miss popular.
The hardest part of dealing with her past and it’s impact on her present is of course the fact that even adults fear her. They may not think she’s a ravenous monster, but they have always treated her with a bit of trepidation. She tries to understand that they are just being cautious as elven magic can be dangerous, but she often resents the way the ministry treats her. She resents that she has to take classes that she doesn’t need or want. She especially resents the way the ministry tends to keep checking on her. She is fairly sure that she is kept on a regular watch if not constant surveillance. As if she was going to suddenly going to turn into a soul sucking she beast. The fact that she knows the ministry is watching her makes her act out just a little bit. She feels that if she’s going to be watched she might as well give them something to watch. So she is well known for doing some semi outrageous things. She is prone to acting very provocative at times and can be quite the exhibitionist. She also tends to dress a little on the trampy side. She is also a drama queen she knows this and could calm herself down a bit, but she doesn’t try. The girl is quite determined that if the ministry was going to make her little more than a freak showed she’d damn well be one hell of a freak show.
Melanie is also a brutally honest girl. She’s a horrid liar and she’s pretty sure this is another side effect of her little ‘gift.’ She literally can not make herself lie no matter how much she may want to. She can avoid answering and she can dance around a response, but she can’t outright lie. The girl could probably figure out a way around this and she could probably learn to bend the truth in ways that she’d practically be lying, but the fae are famous for that and she refuses to be like them. So she’d rather be brutally honest than anything else. This attribute also doesn’t help her relations with her peers. After all how many girls want a friend that will tell you just how fat you look in your new dress. It takes a person with a thick skin to be able to deal with Melanie. The girl is also very active. She despises just lounging about. She has a life that needs living and you can’t do that sitting down. She is more often than not doing something. Whether it be dancing to her ever present music, or playing stupid kiddie games that she enjoys she is rarely still. Even during classes she tends to be rather fidgety

FULL HISTORY: Melanie was born at dawn on a crisp October morning. She came into world in a suprsingly quiet manner and she would to continue on this way. She was never a baby who made much noice this however did not mean she wasn't a handful. Sure she was quiet, but she was also a very restless baby one that was always moving and unhappy staying still. This was a baby on the move from the moment she learned to crawl she was hard to keep track of. Her parents learned the hard way to keep their on on their quiet baby because she had a habit of getting into anything. Her parents coped fairly well and did do a fairly good job of keeping tabs on their wandering baby.
But of course as we all know things happen and no one is perfect. Just a few weeks after Melanie celebrated her third birthday just such an event happened. The girl had been in her own playing with her toys while her mother did the hair of one of her friends. Marrisa didn't pay much attention as her toddler began stumbling around the house. By this point through much experience they had pretty much Melanie proofed the house. The doors were kept locked, all the entrances and exits were charmed to alert her mother if they were opened, and all the cabinets were child proofed. However one little detail had been forgotten. Most adults don't think of a doggy door as a convient exit especially since the door wasn't designed for a large dog. But Melanie still managed to wiggle out the little flap and into her back yard.
Of course Melanie's yard had been toddler proofed and was certainly no cesspool full of menace and danger. Yet once again her parent's looked over something most people wouldn't consider dangerous. A faery's ring certainly doesn't look dangerous as a circle of mushrooms isn't exactly intimidating and they are things often overlooked even by Wizards who know full well that the Fae do indeed exist. One can run through a faery ring a million times and not once run into anything more frightening than fungi. Melanie's trip through the faery ring unfortuantely didn't have the good luck to be one of those trips. When the stumbling toddler found her way into the innocent looking circle she wasn't alone.
Being three years old meant many things, but mostly it meant that Melanie had no idea just how much trouble she was in and just how terrfying the smiling friendly looking creature with pointy ears could be. Nor could she guess how much a simple visit with a stanger in a faery ring would change the rest of her life. The toddler would not know how quickly she should have ran away when the elf offered her a gift of magic. The girl knew that gifts were fun and that the magic her parents did all the time was just as neat so her young mind saw no reason to say no. So the young child accepted the gift eagerly not knowing what she was getting herself into. After saying yes the girl doesn't really remember much.
The next thing she knew she was walking out of the circle and back into her back yard. The first sign that all was not right was the fact that where it had been light it was now dark and the stars were out. Melanie wouldn't understand until she was several years older, but while she felt she had been with the nice guy with pointy ears for just a little while nine weeks had passed outside of the circle. It wasn't long before the girl's confused and unhappy screaming drew her parent's attention to her prescence in the yard. Her parents were of course ridiclously releived to find their child who had mysteriously disappeared and were so greatful they barely cared where she had gone they were just glad to have her back and seemingly unharmed.
Much of what happened would stay a mystery for a few weeks as no one really wanted to believe the toddler's gabbing about the pointy eared men. Wizards were of course aware of the existance of the Fae, but sightings were rare enough that they didn't pay the girl's testimony much attention. After all the official questions were answered as well as they could be and the girl seemed well enough the Ministry's interest faded away. The MLE after all had more to do than worry about where a girl who had returned home perfectly fine. Unfortunately that disinterest didn't last long once the Adkins family discovered just how changed their daughter was.
After the girl's return her parents were of course very very careful to keep their eyes on her at all times even going to the lengths of moving her toddler bed into their room so that she could sleep supervised. The family had almost returned to their normal routines when they discovered just how much their lives were changed and how permanantly. It was during dinner and one of her parent's usual arguments about money. As usual Melanie was getting more and more upset as her parents fought however unlike usual instead of breaking into tears as she lost control over her emotions Melanie the girl transfigured into a Unicorn. Of course Melanie's parents did not react well to this. It's a well known fact that while being an animagus wasn't exactly the rarest thing in the world people who could take on a magical creature's form was very very rare. Melanie would in fact be the first confirmed case in America around the world there were only a handful of other such documentated people and a few rumors of others, but Melanie was most defintely an oddity.
Of course Melanie's parents didn't know any of this or really care all they knew is that they had just watched their baby turn into a baby unicorn. They were panicked and had absolutely no idea what was happening with their child. Whisking her off to St. Mungo's was neither an easy thing to do nor was it probably the smartest thing to do, but one can't blame the panic strickened parents for their actions. While the didn't mean to set up Melanie to be an object of suspicion and sometimes even fear this would be the first step down that road. Once Melanie arrived at the hospital which was quite a challenge given that transporting a baby unicorn is never easy things defintely went down hill. After the doctors ascertained that the girl was in fact just fine and that they beleived she would eventually change back the ministry was immediately notified.
And the damage was officially done. Once the girl changed back to her girl form she would be the youngest person ever documented as a full animagus and the first person in AMOM history to be registered with the form of a magical creature. From that moment on Melanie would be carefully watched by the ministry who while wasn't afraid of a toddler was very wary of the strange magic that enabled a three year old to transfiguring herself into a purely magical creature. Melanie knows that she was lucky that the unicorn if fairly innocent else they probably would have locked her up and continously poked and prodded her with their wands for ever. Fortunately though not exactly harmless the unicorn is one of the more tolerated magical creatures. Of course if she turned into something like a niffler the ministry would have left her alone.
However the ministry didn't leave her alone and were in fact a very obvious and unwelcome part of her life. As she grew up she grew up knowing that the ministry was watching over her shoulder waiting for her to show signs of being a real danger. This unsurpsingly played havoc with her sense of being as she grew up. For a long time the girl was just as afraid of herself as the ministry. As a child she was known to be pretty seclusive as she did her best to stay away from other children so as not to hurt them. There was obviously something wrong with her and if the Ministry kept an eye on her she had to be a danger to the whole world.
Melanie rarely talked to anyone other than the animagus tutor who was helping her. Of course she only had to think of changing shapes and she'd be a unicorn, but the tutor was helping her try not to change. Unlike most animagus she sometimes couldn't help but transfigure herself and it was very distressing to change shapes everytime she got emotionally distressed. This fact of course only enforced her own isolation as she was unable to attend school with other children because of the possiblty that she would transfigure in the midst of her class which would be really hard to explain to muggles. She was kept mostly at home and the few occasions she did get taken out of her home it was only to wizarding parts of the world and even the trips would be quickly ended if they girl became too emotional.
When the girl turned eleven which was the age where she should have been shipped off to attend the Salem Insitute of Witchcraft the ministry once again made their prescence known in her life. Going to the institute had been something Melanie had been looking forward to for years. Being around kids her age and out from under her parent's and the ministry's intense scrutiny was something she wanted so bad she could taste it. She was enchanted with the idea of being surrounded by her peers and maybe even making friends. But then the ministry poked their nose into her business again and convinced her parents that Salem Institute wasn't the best idea and that they should instead send her to a smaller private school in Florida. The Ministry assured Melanie and her parents that the American Academy of Thaumaturgy was better suited to helping her deal with her little problem.
Having been looking very forward to Salem Melanie resented this change quite a bit. This would be about the point where Melanie's uncertain feelings about her situation began to slide from uncertain to angry. She still wasn't entirely comfortable with herself as there was still a part of her that was just as wary of her own abilities as the ministry, but she defintely began to blame the Ministry to making a bad situation worse. Entering the school was a relatively smooth process or at least as smooth as forcing an unhappy child into a new environment far from home could ever be. Despite her anger and feelings of resentment Melanie would mold a comfortable place for herself at AAT almost immediately.
The beginning of her carrer at AAT started well enough, but of course had a few bumps along the way. The biggest problem was of course from the moment she entered the school people knew she wasn't quite right. While Melanie hadn't started acting out at this point in her life it was still obvious that she wasn't quite the quiet little eleven year old she seemed to be, this was of course thanks to the Ministry's meddling and their insistence that she immediately start classes in shapechanging. Now while shape changing was a common enough class Melanie would be the only first year in the class. This fact paired with the fact that she found transfiguration which to most was a challenging class to come naturally would make her an odd ball. Which was ok Melanie could deal with a few odd looks. Of course when the few odd looks went from your weird to your scary things became more upsetting.
It was once again an accident probably not anyone's fault. Melanie was sitting in her usual spot near the Professor who hadn't arrived yet when the students in the class began to ask some very pointed questions about her prescence in the class. These questions made the girl uncomfortable as she didn't want everyone to know she was a monster. As kids are prone to do things got quiet out of hand and Melanie tried to leave the classroom, but the several of the more agressive people in the class wouldn't let her. They would keep pushing her away from the door. This of course quickly overloaded Melanie as she just wasn't used to dealing with peers, or in fact much of anything other than her own quiet peaceful home. And before she could do anything about it her 'gift' made itself evident.
Fortunately for the students the professors made an timely entry to see Melanie in her animagus form. While the students didn't realize it they were of course in some danger. Unicorns are pretty and generally peaceful, but a scared unicorn is nothing to play with. However luckily for everyone the Professor was able to calm Melanie enough that no one was hurt and eventually managed to allow the girl to gain enough control of herself to return to her human shape. Of course the damage was already done and it wouldn't be long before whispers of what Melanie could do were all around the school. Unsurprisingly most of the student body didn't react well. Even though they were Witches and Wizards they were still human and humans had never been very good at accepting the odd and mysterious.
There however was a silver lining to the whole incident. Because even as her secret came out and plenty of people labeled her a freak she would quickly discover that not everyone felt that way. The people who didn't care or actually thought the whole matter was cool weren't as numerous as the people who'd avoid her or dislike her because of her gift, but they were there. People who befriended her even though they knew what she could do. This would help Melanie come to terms with herself she was different, but she wasn't a monster even if people did occasionally treat her that way. This would also be the start of her if your gonna watch me I'll give you something to watch school of thinking. her time at AAT became a little more interesting after this point as she did begin to get in more and more trouble thanks to her stunts. Her stunts would continue however when the Head Mistress in her infinite wisdom named her a prefect Melanie did tone herself down a little. She's still prone to do attention grabbing things, but she's careful to stay inside the rules. Her life isn't perfect and she still has some uncertain moments, but Melanie has found her place at AAT and is reasonably comfortable assuming that nothing changes of course.
{ IMPRESSIONS }
RP SAMPLE: Melanie was in a foul mood and it seemed that nothing was going to pull her out of it and boy had she tried. First she had tried flying being up in the air the wind gusting through her hair had always been a nearly fool proof way to wash her anger and discontent away. When that had surprisingly not worked feeling just a little betrayed by her own state of mind Melanie turned to good old fashioned excercise. She had hoped she could run away from her anger or at least exhaust herself so much that she'd not have to think for a while. But for once her good health betrayed her leaving her feeling energized and just as angry as before. Finally she had resorted to burning small holes in the curtains . Each little burn mark had given her a little spurt of satisfaction, but the feeling didn't last long and was quickly kicked out of it's place by her ever present anger and resentment.
Of course her anger and resentment sprouted from the same source as it always did. AMOM. Melanie had always thought it had sounded just like a dirty word just less fun to say. Logically the girl knew AMOM meant her no real harm and that making her miserable wasn't their only goal, but it seemed every time she turned around the miserable bastards were there to rain all over her parade. She knew they were just trying to do what was best for everyone, but she couldn't help but feel as if they had a board in their break room for people to suggest ways to make her life even more sucky than it already was. All this bitterness of course meant that the Ministry had once again turned down her petition to let her drop her useless shape changing classes.
"How freaking pointless. Why can't those morons just see I need them meddling in my schedule as much as I need a giant flaming hole in my head. Nosy bastards I can shape change circles around their arses and they make me take a useless ass class, just to make themselves as if they are taking care of the problem. They need a fricking hobby like seriously, stupid bunch of jack asses." Melanie ranted to no one, but herself and she didn't think twice as she did so where the whole world could hear her. If they didn't like it they could get in line with AMOM and kiss her wonderfully shaped ass. Her rant of course did little to improve her mood which wasn't all that surprising since she had been ranting since the owl rejecting her appeal had left with it's singed tail feathers.
As Melanie ranted she seemed to be talking to the arm of the couch she was sitting on which featured a new burn hole or two. She knew she'd have to fix them before she left as prefects burning holes in the furniture was pretty frowned upon, but it felt at least a little satisfying to stab her wand into the little holes. The girl was aware she wasn't handling the news very well, but then she never had. A lot of people who knew her knew that when she got an offical looking owl from the ministry it was a good time to make themselves scarce. She tried to not let the rejections upset her, but the anger just wouldn't stay away. It always felt as if the ministry was punishing her for being a victim. As if it was her fault a god damned elf had cursed her. One would think the ministry would feel sypamthetic toward her, but no instead of sympathy they throws loads and loads of suspcion her way. "Stupid bastards. I swear sometimes I wish that elf had taught me to be a dragon and then at least I could eat their asses. Uptight paranoids sons of a..." The girl's voice trailed off as she stabbed her wnad once again into the couches arm. This sucks ok fine maybe I'll go write another petition. Ok maybe after a few more holes.
