the appearance

height & weight ; Luna is for a woman of pretty average height and weight. She's just a tad bit under five foot seven and weighs right around 130 lbs. Thanks to her fairly active lifestyle and the fact that she loves walking all over the place she has a slim figure. Of course while she is slim she still has a pretty curvy figure in all the right spots.
hair ; Her hair is a pale, dirty blonde that falls to the middle of her back in soft waves, and often looks rather unkempt. When she puts effort into it her hair can really be quiet pretty, but she doesn't usually pay it much mind. She likes to leave her hair free and unbound unless she's dealing with a creature that will go for her hair you'll find it free. This of course doesn't make for the best styling as the wind often blows her hair about and it often gets tousled when she's comuning with her various creature friends.
eyes ; Luna has the sort of eyes that always give an impression of being able to see a lot more than most would want. Her eyes are large, round and silvery-grey in colour and always hold a vaguely distant expression, as if she has been walking around in a dream state. Thin, pale eyebrows frame her misty eyes and only serve to add to her dreamy expression. Quite a few people have said her eyes are just a little on the creepy side. Luna says since eyes are the window to her soul and her soul is obviously just a bit different than others that it makes sense people would think her windows odd.
facial features ; Other than her eyes the most notable feature of her face is her lips. She has full lips that are slightly upturned, making her appear as though she is always on the border of a smile. Her face is oval in shape and she has a rather strong jaw line and full cheeks that give her a youthful appearance.
distinguishing features ; The most distingiushing thing about her is of course her personality and style, but she does have a few marks on her body that stand out. The most obvious in on her ankle with is a very clear imprint of a set of teeth. She recieved this scar from a young dragon when she was studying them in the wild. She also has a scar of claw marks on her upper left arm from a cranky mermaid.
style ; Luna's style is defintely unique and there are a lot of people who would take offense to anyone calling the was she dressed any sort of style. She has been known to wear some very outlandish outfits. When she isn't running around with a lion's head on her head, or wearing bright orange robes and such she still manages to keep her style unique thought she doesn't really attempt to. She just wears what she likes. She tends to like bright colors as they usually have good meanings and she also prefers comfrotable durable clothes to anything more functional. She also like to accesorize and is notrious for her gurdy root earrings which look like orange turnips. She likes accesories that are either useful like the gurdy roots or sentimental like her necklace of butter-beer tops.

the personality
likes ; ANIMALS Luna loves the world of creatures. This goes far beyond just being fond of them. She respects animals, empathisizes with them, does her best to protect them. Luna has always and probably will always gotten along better with animals than humans. As animals no matter how big or scary tend to be simpler than people. She is very good with them and tends to treat them like they are people. She has absolutely no problem talking to an animal even the ones that certainly can't understand them. She even likes the animals most people find creepy. Her very favorite the Thestrals are a great example of this.
PEOPLE WATCHING Luna likes people. Even the ones that don't really like her more often than not. But most importantly she finds people fascinating. Whether they are in a group or on their own people are fascinating. The Human psyche is one of the most miraclous things in the world. She loves just sitting back and trying to figure out what makes people tick. She never expects to really find any answers, but she likes studying people as if she will eventually find out why some people act one way while others act entirely different and how those different groups of people interact with other different personality types.
CURIOUS THINGS Some people see the strange and say weird Luna has always been the one that says interesting. She loves things that make her think. Whether it be a strange, object, an unusual event, or even a puzzle anything that peaks her curousity is something Luna approves of. She likes being fasncinated by things. She enjoys feeling the excitement of wanting to figure out the puzzle or whatever.
THE UNBELIEVEABLE Luna was always been a girl with an open mind. When most people reject something as impossible Luna will beleive in it just because someone has to. She's defintely a beleive it until you can prove to me without a doubt sort of girl. Though she has given up on the existance of Nargles she still beleives there is much to the world that no one understands and she knows that just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't actually exist. Sometimes you have to just beleive. Of course she also takes a great amount of pleasure of making the unbeleiveable believeable by finding the creature or myth and making it fact. She's done this several times and is really quite proud of her progress into proving that there really is no such thing as unbeleiveable.
FRIENDSHIP If one asked people to name the one thing no one could live without most people would said air, food, water etc. Luna would unequiviocally answers friends. She feels that friendship whether it be one friend or a million is extremely important and that no person with no friends can actually live. Everyone needs somone. She knows friendship is an odd a beuaitful thing that can be hard to explain as a friend can be a person, a cat, or sometimes even an inanimate object. Luna of course will never frown on a friendship no matter how odd. She thinks its lovely when someone has a friend no one else can see, or a friend that maybe be stuffed, missing an eye, and might have one seriously crooked bunny ear. A friend is a friend and friends are the life blood of the world. Friends will lift you up when your down, pick you up when you fall, push you when you falter, and hold you when you tremble. She beleives that one could find an sustitue for almost everything in life, but one can't substitute anything for friendship.
dislikes ; HATRED Luna isn't a woman that dislikes many things as she likes to beleive that almost everything has redeeming qualities. But she defintely has to frown on hatred. As she sees it hatred has no purposes and does nothing, but harm people. It causes war and pain and so much uglyness that Luna just can't find a redeeming quality. She does realize that hatred has inspired some amazing things, but the price it comes at is always too much and never worth it. And the only thing worse than regular hatred is of course blind hatred.
DEATH EATERS Luna is again the sort of woman who tries the see the good in everything. This is a woman who understands that everything plays it's part in the world. So it is often for her to disapprove of things, but if there is one group or thing Luna just won't tolerate and perhaps even comes close to hating it is the Death Eaters. They have of course had a great impact on her life and she will admit the impact they had on her life wasn't all negative as she probably would have never made her very best friends if it wasn't for them. But as much as she might try to see the goodness in them she can't. She is quite aware that it is very unfair to paint every person with the same brush, but she can't help but see the death eaters as evil no matter how noble they may think their cause is. Because all she sees in the aftermath is pain and loss with no real purpsose and with nothing to gain.
BLOOD FOOLISHNESS This pretty much goes with the Death Eaters dislike. Luna has always been one to leave people and their beliefs alone everyone has to make their own decisions, but if there was on belief she would oblitererate given the chance it would be this whole pureblood superiority thing. Really she thinks the idea itself is one of the sillier beliefs in the world as there is plenty of evidence that half-bloods and muggle borns can be just as good if not better than purebloods. Prime examples of this are of course Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, but she doesn't really care if the beleif makes sense or not, but really the damage it has caused and looks to be causing again.
NARGLES Luna is actually fairly sure that Nargles do not exist. She had after a long search has finally come to decide that perhaps they aren't real. However that hasn't made her stop talking about them. Of course now when she speaks of nargles it's more as an embodiment of bad lack or misfortune. She often blames things on Nargles to lighten the situation. Nothing like blaming a nargle when someone trips and embarasses themselves. And nothing like a crazy woman talking about a non existant animal to distract people and save someone else a bit of embarssment. She finds the mention of Nargles both entertaining and useful, but dislikes the events that she uses Nargles as a clever cover up. She is very aware of the fact that they are unable to stop something, but that doesn't mean she has to enjoy that fact.
DWELLING IN THE PAST One of the greatest weaknesses Luna beleives is the inablity of so many people to move on. In the process of living every single person will encounter a number of tragedies events that will change your whole life and the even bigger problem is that some people will spend their lives focused on those moments instead of getting on with their lives. Luna doesn't like dwelling on the past too much remembering is okay acknowledging it is fine, but dwelling is just a very bad way to live. She's of course had several tradgedies in her life like the loss of her mother and her imprisonment by the death eaters, and that whole war but she rarely thinks about it. She will remember occasionally, but she doesn't focus on it, because life moves on and you have to move with it.
strengths ;OBSERVANT Luna has always looked like a woman lost in a dream world. One look into her not entirely focused eyes and it's easy to think she's not all there and maybe even a bit on the slow side. However those dreamy eyes don't miss much. Luna is an extremely obeservant woman. She is especially good at reading people and their emotions. Their aren't many facades that can stand up to her scrutiny. She is very good at picking up the tiny tell tale signs that most people would ignore like say the tension in one's hands or even their respiration rate and other such details. This makes it very hard to lie to Luna not that their are many people who talk to her enough that they actually need to try.
SERENE Luna is acutely aware that the world is full of strife and many negative things, but by the way she acts you'd never be able to tell. She is a very serene woman who beleives that everything has their purpose even the painful things. This serenity helps in many aspects of her life. It allows her to deal with high pressure sitatuation pretty well. It was one of the reasons that she coped so well after being kidnapped by the Death Eaters. Her serenity often has a calming effect on her friends which is some cases can be a very good thing. Her serenity is also what allows her to fight a battle that doesn't look winnable without losing hope.
LOYAL There are a lot of people who wouldn't be impressed by having Luna Lovegood's loyalty, but that's because they underestimate her. Luna is an extremely loyal person who will always be there for her friends. She will just about anything for her friends. She will also always believe in them no matter what public opinion might be. This is one of her greatest strengths because her friends always seem to return the same loyalty to her or at least she thinks so since her friends would undoubtedly be there for her should she ever need them.
weaknesses ; PEOPLE SKILLS Luna personally feels that her people skills are just fine. However there are many people who would disagree. Luna has always had a unique view of the world and this is a view that many people find hard to swallow so a lot of people really just don't know how to deal with Luna. On her part she feels no need to try to be any other way so she simply let's things stand the way they are. If one can't get along with her she won't hold it against them, but she won't try to fix it either. This leads to many little problems the biggest of all being the fact that many people under estimate her simply because they assume that she's crazy due to her beliefs and the way she deals with people.
ACCEPTING Most people would see this as a stength however Luna tends to take it a little too far. She has always had a habit of accepting people for exactly who they are and not really blaming them for it. This only becomes a problem when the people she care about show less than admirable traits. This is an issue because she will continue to trust them not matter what they've done as long as she can reasonably decide they are unlikely to do anything bad again. Her father is a good example of this. After all he did betray her dear friends Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but she forgave him easily knowing why he did it. She is likely to do this with pretty much anyone.
WEAKNESS HERE 5+ sentences to elaborate on this point
boggart ; Losing her friends.
amortentia ; Gurdyroot, Plimpy soup, and an old fashioned rose perfume her mother use to wear.
erised ; Luna's deepest desire is to keep her friends safe and maybe make new ones.
veritaserum ; That she doesn't really believe in Nargles and sometimes says it just to bug people who think she's crazy.
dementor ; Luna's worst memory is of the time during her sixth year when she was kept hostage by the Death Eaters to make her father print anti-harry propganda in the Quibbler.
patronus ; Luna is very capable of the patronus and it takes on the shape of a hare. Her happiest memory is an odd one, because it's a memory of very serious and somewhat sad conversation with Harry. This would become her favorite memeory, because it would be this conversation that would start her first real friendship.
personality ; To describe Luna in one world would be sorta like trying to describe the universe in one word. Practically impossible, but if one had to pick the best word would be different. She is indeed a very different sort of girl. She sees things different, she acts differently than most people, and she is defintely labeled as different. Luna has never minded this she is aware that some of her beliefs put her well over the line of eccentric, but Luna is very comfortable with herself. She's always seen the world in a light that most people either can't see or don't want to see it in. She is most definitely a open minded free spirited person. She absolutely doesn't believe that beleiving is seeing and is perfectly ok believing without seeing.
She is an amiable woman who doesn't really get upset very often. Luna is a serene woman who tends to go with the flow and can accept most things. She doesn't really have much of a temper no matter what. It's practically impossible to get on Luna's bad side. You can insult her, call her crazy, even attack her and she will take it fairly calm and she doesn't beleive in holding grudges. The only way to get on her bad side is to attack her friends or family. Even then while she will defend her friends to the best of her ability she's not likely to get mad about it. She will handle attacks if she must, but she will rarely take them personally. After all people can't really help, but to be what the world made them. Being upset at someone for their nature is really just pointless in Luna's view. It's like being upset at a chicken for laying eggs.
One of Luna's strongest beliefs is in the power of friendship. She truly beleives that friendship is invisible, but tangible force. She doesn't have many friends as most people find her hard to deal with, but she sees the friends she has as very valueable. She is also an extrmely loyal friend who will always be willing to offer a hand or an ear or really whatever body part they need. She is unlikely to ever leave a friend hanging and or in need. It's just not in her to turn her back on the few friends she has. Her friends tend to be very different from her and her other friends and she values them for those differences.

history ; Luna was born on a warm June evening in the Summer of 1981 to Therese and Xenophilius Lovegood. An only child, Luna received all of the love and attention that any child could wish for. She was taught from a very young age to be herself, regardless of what anyone thought or said. This is something that Luna took very seriously, holding onto her mother’s wise words throughout her life.
The Lovegood family lived in a black cylindrical tower atop a hill just north of the small village Ottery St Catchpole. To onlookers, the house might seem odd. It certainly wasn’t conventional. But to Luna, it was simply home. Her father, better known as Xeno, was the editor of the wizarding newspaper, The Quibbler, a publication that Luna firmly believes reports only truthful, need-to-know articles. Luna always thought it such a shame that most other people seemed to think that it was nothing more than stuff of fiction.
Luna’s mother passed away when Luna was just nine years old. Even though she does feel sad about it sometimes, she clings to the knowledge that she and her father have each other. Besides, she admires her mother greatly. She was a fantastic witch who, like Luna, marched to her own drummer irrespective of what others thought of her.
Being that she is from an all-magic family, it came as no surprise to Luna when her Hogwarts acceptance letter arrived during the summer of 1992. She and her father eagerly purchased everything that she needed for her first year at the legendary school before she boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time. Almost immediately, others started making fun of her, but Luna took it all in her stride. During the Sorting Ceremony, Luna was sorted into Ravenclaw, something that seemed to amuse some of the other students. Apparently, she looked too ‘vacant’ to be sorted into Ravenclaw.
Over the next few years, Luna excelled in some subjects, namely Herbology, and when the time came to opt for it, Care of Magical Creatures. She owes this to her father whom often prints stories of strange and unusual creatures in The Quibbler. She didn’t have many friends during her first years of school, and can only really count on her hands the people that spoke to her without ridiculing her. One of those people was Ginny Weasley. Whereas Ginny wasn’t, at that point, a real friend, she didn’t go out of her way to make fun of Luna, either.
It was through Ginny that Luna met the famed Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom when they took seats in the same compartment of the Hogwarts Express. Luna knew that they thought she was a little strange, but was determined to show Harry that she and her father believed his account of what had happened the night that Cedric Diggory died. This was reflected in the articles that her father ran in his magazine, calling for support for Harry in the wake of the blatant vilification by the Ministry and the Daily Prophet.
It was during this, her fourth year at Hogwarts, that Luna joined what became known as Dumbledore’s Army, a student organisation in which Harry taught Defence Against the Dark Arts to his peers when the Ministry thought it best that the children not learn practical defensive magic. Luna holds Harry’s teachings largely responsible for her O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. DADA grades. It was also at this time that Luna felt that she had real friends for the first time, even if she did clash with Hermione on occasion. Luna just put that down to them being two very different people.
Luna was amongst those who took on the Death Eaters in the Ministry of Magic, after Harry was led to believe that Voldemort was holding his Godfather, Sirius Black, hostage. It was Luna who suggested that the six of them—after escaping from Umbridge and her Inquisitorial Squad—fly to London on Thestrals, and in doing so, ensured that they got to the Ministry at all. Inside, Luna showed off her substantial talent for defensive magic during the battle in the Department of Mysteries; a fight from which she and Harry emerged relatively unscathed. Sadly, during the battle, Harry’s Godfather was murdered by one of the Death Eaters. At a time when none of his other friends could reach him, Luna somehow managed, offering him a shoulder to cry on and securing a place of one of his good friends in the process.
Throughout the next year, Luna’s friendships with the Gryffindors developed further, and at the end of the school year Luna and Neville were the only members of the DA to join Ginny, Hermione and Ron in patrolling the hallways of Hogwarts the night that Death Eaters invaded the school and Professor Dumbledore was killed. Even though the DA had effectively disbanded, both she and Neville were the ones who missed the time spent with Harry and the rest of the DA and so checked the enchanted Galleons that Hermione had handed out regularly.
It was during Luna’s sixth year that the Battle of Hogwarts took place after a very long, tense year. She, along with Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom, secretly reformed the DA in the absence of Harry, Ron and Hermione. None of them really knew what had happened to the trio, where they had gone or even if they were still alive, but they all understood that Harry wasn’t safe at the school and that he had good reason not to complete his final year at Hogwarts. They also all understood the importance of keeping a united front, and they all spent that year on high alert, on the look out for attacks from Death Eaters as well as the day to day event of standing up to the oppressive regime brought to the school by the new headmaster, Severus Snape.
Before the battle, Luna was kidnapped from the Hogwarts Express when she was on her way home for the Christmas holidays, which is something that she notes as being one of the scariest moments of her life. She was held hostage—along with Dean Thomas and Mr. Ollivander, and also nearing the end of the ordeal Griphook, Harry and Ron—by Death Eaters as a means of forcing her father to print anti-Harry propaganda in The Quibbler. They were all eventually rescued by Dobby the Malfoy’s house elf.
When the final battle dawned ever nearer, and Luna learned the reason for Harry, Ron and Hermione’s absence from school, she was instrumental in Harry trying to track down the remaining Horcruxes. This included sneaking Harry into Ravenclaw tower to look at the replica of Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem, and stunning Alecto Carrow, a Death Eater masquerading as a professor, in the process. She, along with Ginny, fought Bellatrix Lestrange during the final battle, something that she is incredibly proud of.
Following the fall of the Dark Lord, Luna was one of the few students who wanted to go back to Hogwarts in order to complete her final year. With the help of the new Minister, Kingsley Shacklebolt, the school was reopened with Quinn O’Connor at the helm and she went on to achieve seven N.E.W.T.s. After leaving Hogwarts, she spent a few months rebuilding the home she shared with her father.
When she was satisfied that he was himself once more, Luna embarked on a career as a naturalist. She has spent much of the last decade travelling around the UK and the world in search of new and exciting species of animal and plants to study, including spending a year in Australia studying Blibbering Humdingers and a year in Russia on the trail of Nargles, which she has reluctantly been forced to admit don’t exist. She has become quite famous in her field, something which she takes in her stride, much like the rest of her life.
Luna returned to London from an expedition in France, where she was searching for Umgubular Slashkilters, when she heard of the disappearances and the sighting of the Dark Mark at the annual celebrations. She has joined some of the other members of the Order of the Phoenix to try and track down the escaped prisoners and try to restore calm to the wizarding world. Upon returning to what she considered home she would take on the position of Care of Magical Creatures at the suggestion of Harry for the school's safety. Luna has taken to the position fairly well even though she's been largely incapable of stopping the many disasters the school has faced. Though she did manage to help save a class of fourth years from a poor sick rabid Cenataur.
